This three-year program includes rotations through the departments of family practice, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics, and surgery. Residents participate in daily morning rounds, weekly case presentations and behavioral sciences conferences, weekly core curriculum lectures, and a monthly journal club. Each month, residents also are required to attend a daylong didactic session at Michigan State University.
At the training sites, residents develop a full caseload of patient families and are expected to show continuity of care and progressive responsibility during the training period. Clinical research is encouraged but not required.
Residents participate in the Educational Program of the Statewide Campus System of the MSUCOM didactic curriculum for Family Practice.
First year is OGME-1r (option 1). Students will "match" directly into the residency and the 1st postdoctoral year will be considered the first year of residency training.
