The McLaren Macomb Healthcare Foundation’s 28th annual gala, The Crystal Ball, will feature two special awards. The foundation is the fundraising arm of McLaren Macomb.
This year’s theme is “Miami Nights.” The Crystal Ball will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Villa Penna, 43985 Hayes Road in Sterling Heights.
The black-tie event will include a cocktail reception, hors d’oeuvres, gourmet dinner, premium bar, raffles and much more. In addition, guests will enjoy the famous Villa Penna dessert table, a Miami Afterglow Café and a Mojito Specialty Bar. Live entertainment will be provided by Dal Bouey and her band.
“We are honoring two individuals for their ongoing commitment and support of the hospital and the foundation,” said Elsa Silverman, director of the McLaren Macomb Healthcare Foundation. “This is an opportunity for us to publicly acknowledge their tremendous contribution.”
Dr. James E. Johnson will be presented with the Physician Recognition Award and Ted B. Wahby will receive the Community Partner Award.
Dr. Johnson, a surgeon, will be recognized for his longtime commitment to health care and McLaren Macomb. The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons recently honored him with the Orel F. Martin Medal, the organization’s highest award. He was recognized for his outstanding career as an osteopathic surgeon, educator, mentor and leader.
Wahby, chair of the McLaren Macomb Board of Trustees, will be honored for his community service and commitment to the hospital. He played a major role in helping raise funds to build a cancer center at McLaren Macomb. He has a distinguished record of service to his community. Among his many awards are March of Dimes Man of Year, the Michigan Health & Hospital Association Leadership Award and the Thanks for Giving Award, which recognizes health care volunteers in Metro Detroit.
“Both recipients have given so generously of their time and expertise to McLaren Macomb and are very deserving of these awards,” added Silverman.
Tickets are $250 per person with sponsorship opportunities available.
A portion of the proceeds from the gala will benefit McLaren Macomb’s Emergency Department and Trauma Service. McLaren Macomb is Macomb County’s first and only verified trauma center.
