Volunteer — Change a Life!
The volunteer opportunities at McLaren Greater Lansing vary widely and are available seven days a week including evening placements. More than two dozen volunteer service groups provide distinct opportunities for volunteers to develop new skills, make new friends and contribute to the community.
Volunteer services are divided into three categories:
Guest Services – Volunteers work with families, visitors and the public.
Patient Services – Volunteers work directly with patients.
Support Services – Volunteers work "behind the scenes" and provide services to hospital staff patients or families.
Our goal is to recruit and retain a group of dedicated, motivated and conscientious volunteers who will commit themselves to our mission.
Below are the important steps each individual takes on the way to volunteering at McLaren Greater Lansing:
- All prospective volunteers must complete an application, authorize a background check and provide references.
- Once your completed application and references have been received, your application is processed. If it is determined that we are able to match your skills and availability with our volunteer needs, you will be contacted to schedule a placement interview.
- During the interview, the Volunteer Coordinator discusses your motivation for volunteering, your past volunteer and work experience and your areas of interest for volunteer service and will assist you in selecting a volunteer placement.
- All volunteers must attend orientation and have a TB test prior to beginning volunteer placement. Volunteer orientation is held on the first Wednesday of each month. At this time you may purchase the required volunteer uniform. The cost ranges from $20 to $30. Training is provided for each placement area.
