Local P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter DN celebrated their Founder’s Day by presenting the first female born on or after January 21, 2013 at McLaren Central Michigan with a $75 gift certificate to the Book Shelf bookstore in Mt. Pleasant.

The lucky baby girl was Rowan Elizabeth Ruth Hinds, daughter of Tracey and William Hinds of Mt. Pleasant. Rowan was born on January 24 at 12:30 a.m., weighing 5 pounds and 10 ounces and 17 ½” long. She is the second Hinds child. Alex, their first child, was also born at MCM.

P.E.O., which stands for ‘philanthropic education organization’, was founded on January 21, 1869 by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Local chapter DN is made up of 45 women from the central Michigan area.

Promoting educational opportunities for women is the primary philanthropy of P.E.O., which sponsors no less than six international philanthropies, or projects, designed to assist women with their educational goals. Five area women are currently beneficiaries of these programs. Visit peointernational.org for more information.
