To help build awareness of breast cancer issues, Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center is launching BRAvo, a bra decorating challenge. As a community fundraising event, BRAvo features a competition for the tasteful decoration of bras.
BRAvo is a fun, creative opportunity for individuals and businesses to show their support for breast cancer survivors and educate the community about breast cancer.
Sponsored by Mount Clemens Regional and Bianchi’s Salon in Clinton Township, the initiative is collaboration between the Mount Clemens Regional Breast Center, the Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center and the Mount Clemens Regional Healthcare Foundation.
The BRAvo contest is open to individuals or groups ages 13 and up. An entry fee of $50 and a decorated bra (in the theme of the entrant’s choice) are all that is needed to participate. To be eligible for judging, bra entries must be submitted by August 16, 2010. Bras will be judged on theme, originality and design.
Qualifying bras will be displayed at Parisian at The Mall of Partridge Creek during the months of August and September. The winner will be announced at Bravo Night, an event to be held October 6, 2010, at Bianchi’s in Clinton Township.
“BRAvo is a fun event that brings attention to breast cancer awareness,” said Pat Keigher, director of the hospital’s diagnostic imaging department, the Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center and the Mount Clemens Regional Breast Center. “As with most cancer, early detection and treatment are important to surviving breast cancer.”
Breast cancer affects one in eight women during their lives. Breast cancer kills more women in the United States than any cancer except lung cancer. Early detection and education can help reduce that figure. BRAvo supports that effort, with proceeds benefiting the Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center to provide care for women in our community.
