Cardiac PET Scans

Nuclear medicine offers new cardiac PET scan

The nuclear medicine department at Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center is now offering a new cardiac PET scan. The new software will aid cardiologists and cardiovascular thoracic surgeons in deciding whether a high risk cardiac patient is a candidate for surgery.

A cardiac PET scan (positron emission tomography) helps identify cellular changes in the body due to disease. PET scans are usually performed in an outpatient setting and requested by a physician. A cardiac PET scan uses the position of radioactive substances within the body to help better assess the function and blood flow to the heart.

This non-invasive cardiac test that offers a high level of accuracy, helping cardiologists and cardiovascular thoracic surgeons in evaluating high risk cardiac patients. It also enables us to fuse PET imaging with other specialized cardiac images using new state-of-the art technology.

Dr. Dickinson, a specialist in nuclear medicine and nuclear cardiology, is board certified in internal medicine and nuclear medicine. She is also certified in cardiac CT angiography. In addition, Dr. Dickinson has extensive experience in nuclear medicine, cardiology and PET imaging.
