Enteral nutrition therapy is necessary when a functional impairment of the GI System requires specialized formulas delivered through tube feeding to provide adequate nutrition and hydration.

Usually the patient’s damaged area is bypassed with devices such as G-tube or nasogastric tube or PEG tubes. Formulas provide protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins, minerals and sometimes fiber in mixtures specific to patient needs. Most patients only require whole protein formulas with modest carbohydrates and fat concentrations.
