McLaren Health

For our Commercial Members

MedCheck

If your employer has provided you with a pharmacy rider, McLaren Health Plan provides MedCheck, a service to keep our members well informed about their pharmacy benefit. Your prescription drug benefit is based on a formulary. Medication placement on the formulary determines your copay.

Present formulary categories are:

  • Generic/Preferred
  • Brand Preferred
  • Non-Formulary

Formularies are reviewed periodically to ensure the highest quality, most cost effective medications are available to you. Consideration is given to generic availability of medications, review of new medications on the market, placement of new suitable alternatives for Non Formulary medications and any medication recalls. Changes in medication placement on the formulary can lower your copays. Remember, generic medications offer the best value.

Generic drugs:

  • Have the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug
  • Have been proven to be as safe as the brand-name drug
  • Work in the body just like the brand-name drug
  • Are a safe cost effective alternative to high cost, brand-name drugs
  • Are available for 90 days (for one copay) at your favorite In Network retail pharmacy after a 30 day trial

If you are seeking care for a medical issue and your practitioner is prescribing a medication, ask for a medication that is available generically to lower your out of pocket costs. Most importantly, print and take to your healthcare visit the Quick Formulary Guide to help your healthcare provider prescribe high quality, cost effective medications for you. This list will be the most current version of formulary placement.
